Reddit has filed a lawsuit against Anthropic, accusing the AI startup of unlawfully scraping its platform's content to train models like the Claude chatbot. The complaint, lodged in California Superior Court, alleges breach of user agreements and systematic data harvesting without licensing.

Court documents reveal Anthropic allegedly accessed Reddit data over 100,000 times since July 2024, despite claiming to halt crawling operations in May. The social media platform contends its rules governing data usage were explicitly violated, stating Anthropic operates with disregard for established web protocols.
